Starting the journey
Fascinated by Australian origins…
Australians are a funny bunch… so … circumspect… the ‘quiet achievers’. So many stories to be told… and as my grandmother said, “…why would anyone want to read my story? Everybody has a story…” When she was one of the first Australians (and a woman!) who worked with Aboriginal women to translate and write down an Aboriginal language in the early 20th century for the first time ever… I have found that, just like her, there are many stories that our nation has… stored ‘out in the shed’.
1. Why this, why now
Australia has much to offer regarding social and cultural history. Many do not understand the effort it has taken for our generation to enjoy the current standard of living or the opportunities available to us. I have also found that many of us were not educated as to the real origins of Australian history, and much needs to be elaborated upon.
2. Our community…
Why are we here now, and how did we get here? Respecting those who have gone before us, and enjoying the journey, the treasure hunt of knowledge that is available by just asking questions of previous generations. Who is in your life that has a story to tell? I regret not showing interest and asking the questions when they were still with us.
3. Specifically,
the history of Australia is important because it helps us understand how to navigate the current issues we face, or to promote new creative approaches to our cultural challenges… Vintage Australia hopes to reveal
Unknown stories that will shed light on the current generation.
Investigate covered-up experiences that need to be discussed or accounted for
Tell the truth about causes that have had a huge effect on our families
Have fun in finding things of value that are treasures to be remembered
Journey around Australia, finding new things that many have never seen or heard of… we are a big country.
4. Kakadu… smoke and mystery
Travelling back to Kakadu and Arnhem Land 100 years after my grandparents lived there, I find that there is more that needs explaining than there is evidence available….

I only have time for short-form writing, and many stories don’t need to have whole books written about them… and you, the audience, can decide what is of interest, and what you can unsubscribe from…
